Porcelain veneers FAQs

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin shells made of porcelain, which are designed to fit onto the front surface of the teeth. Because they are custom-made, veneers look and feel completely natural once they have been placed. They are resistant to beverages that stain the teeth, and are a great cosmetic option for those looking to improve their overall appearance.

Porcelain veneers can be used to effectively conceal any imperfections, such as cracks, gaps, stains, and discolouration. They can also be used to lengthen and reshape teeth, as well as alter the proportion, surface texture, colour and brightness of the teeth.

First, your dentist will plan your new smile by determining the right size, shape and type of veneers that will best suit you. Then, a mould of your teeth will be taken and sent to a laboratory where your custom veneers will be made.

We’ll prepare your teeth by filing away a small amount of the surface. This will allow space for your veneers to sit in a way that looks natural.  When your veneers are ready, they will be carefully bonded to your teeth.

Veneers can be a great way to enhance the appearance of your smile! If you have discoloured, stained, chipped, broken, misshapen, or worn teeth, talk to your dentist about whether veneers might be right for you. They can recommend the best course of treatment to help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted!

Dental veneers offer several advantages, including improved appearance, durability, stain resistance, minimal tooth alteration, customisability, and fast results. They are a popular and effective option for enhancing the appearance of teeth.

Local anesthesia is used during the dental implant procedure to numb the area, so pain is typically not experienced by patients. Afterward, some swelling, bruising, and discomfort are normal, but this can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and usually subsides within a few days. In general, most patients report minimal to no pain during the dental implant process.

Porcelain veneers can last for many years, typically between 10 and 15 years or even longer with proper care. However, their longevity can vary depending on factors such as oral hygiene practices, the amount of wear and tear they are exposed to, and individual habits like teeth grinding or chewing on hard objects. Regular dental check-ups and maintenance can help extend the lifespan of veneers.

Porcelain veneers can improve the appearance of slightly crooked or misaligned teeth by covering them with a thin shell of porcelain. However, they are not a solution for severely crooked teeth or bite issues. In cases of more severe misalignment, orthodontic treatment such as braces or clear aligners may be necessary to properly align the teeth. It’s best to consult with your dentist or orthodontist to determine the most suitable treatment option for your specific case.

Porcelain veneers are designed to look and feel like natural teeth once they are placed. However, some people may notice a slight difference in sensation initially, particularly if the porcelain veneers are thicker than the natural tooth enamel they replace. This difference is usually minimal and most people quickly adapt to the feel of veneers.
